Plugin solar kits - are they legal?
In short: yes absolutely, we wouldn’t be selling them otherwise.
Solar kits are an easy way to install solar panels in your home. They are subject to the same rules and regulations like any other solar installation. In most European countries for installations with an output of up to 800 W (700 W in Portugal), self installation is possible and exempt from registration or certification requirements. Output power is determined by your inverter, not by the amount of solar panels. These are called “plugin solar kits”. We offer our Performance and City kits in this category.
Over 800 W you generally need an electrician or installer to certify the installation. You can buy a bigger solar kit, like our Plus 2000 or Plus 2400, and have your installer certify it.
If you want to avoid local regulations, in many cases installing a smart meter to not feed any surplus energy into the grid is a great solution. Most of our storage systems offer one.
